"Your direction is more important than your speed" I saw this quote and immediately thought “that’ so true” but after some contemplation I realized this isn’t always the case. There are other factors that need to be considered when determining pace. In some cases the direction and speed are equally as important.
For example, imagine your grassy front lawn (providing you have one). The lawn grows at its own pace and will eventually need to be cut. Lets say you don’t have a lawn mower you do however own a pair of scissors. If you decided to tirelessly cut each blade of grass by hand you would be in a never ending cycle of sniping. Once you finished cutting the section of grass the first half will have already grown back and you’d have to start all over again. There would be no time for anything else. While this example is far fetched, many people spend years going in the right direction but get nowhere because the atmosphere around them has already changed.
On the other hand, If I want to drive to Mexico and I live in New York I can’t get there if I’m not driving in the right direction. It doesn't matter if I’m driving 100 miles per hour or 10 if I’m not ever driving the right direction I can’t get there.
While direction determines your destination, your speed will determines when you achieve your goals. I don’t know about you but I know I’d much rather achieve my goals in 6 months than 6 years. But big goals take time. The faster you drive the more likely you are to miss road signs or get into an accident
Take the time necessary to think and plan out the right way so that you are not wasting time. You might feel like you're going in the right direction but in reality you're really just driving in circles. Sometimes we don't feel lost, even when we are. Allow your identity to be rooted where you came from so you don't lose sight of who you are on your journey. It's okay to not know where your going, I've spent the past two years trying to find my place in a new town but also trying to find who I am before God. I think it's actually kind of important to get a little lost so you can find yourself but not at the expense of losing sight of your creator. Whether you're striving to accomplish your goals in 6 months or 6 years trust in the Lord. Trust that his timing will work out. He has a path that has already been paved. When you find your identity in Christ he will lead you in the right direction and pace your steps so you won't get burnt out in the process.
It's in our nature to walk off the path into the trees to find flowers. Except sometimes when we get there we find out those flowers we spent time searching for were poisonous or dead. In then end of you would have walked on His path you would have found a field of flowers on the other side of the road. When you walk with Him you are guaranteed to be going in the right direction and guaranteed a friend and a protector. Sure you'll probably still get gravel in your shoes, the whole way won't be shaded, and your legs may feel like jello but take time to rest knowing that you will still get to your destination (the one he has aligned for you) he is the creator of your path and the one where your strength is found. Get a little lost in the process in order to find who He has called you to be.
